Open The Door..

Follow the squirrel...
Oh, maybe not - this looks like a ghost squirrel - his pic was taken in the mist. Ghost squirrels are known to do silly things, like this....

What?

...like turning water into ice! "What happened to the pond?"
Let's ignore the squirrel and take a look over there.....

Hmmm, nice mountain (um.. hill). Shall we check it out? See what's over there?

Let's take a boat....

Did not think there were any houses (um..cottages, shacks) over there. If you look closely, you will see a sign that says GAZ. I must be a gas station for motor boats. Nice having a telephoto lens.

But there are other boats on the lake (Lake of Two Mountains, for those of you who know my area). Shall we flag down this sailboat?

Let's see where the wind takes us....

Ah... this boat's going to church. Actually, that church is on a point of land in the village of Oka, where the monks make their famous Oka cheese.

These pics were taken last week. Wanting to explore a bit, I took the car down to the village and left it in a parking lot. Stepping out, the air felt rather chilly, but the sun was warm. I decided to take a long walk and see where I'd end up. Water always beckons me and so I ended up at the yacht club.

At this time of year, the club is deserted. Boats anchored for the winter. Club house empty. No one about, except for a few "walkers", some with dogs and some without. The weather was exceptionally nice for the end of November. But I was still surprised to see boats on the lake at this time of year.

November is coming to a close. It's been a warm and gentle month. Without snow......yet!

I love your field trip. Is that actually ice?

Ella's bonnet was actually her elephant ears from Halloween. She wanted to be an elephant, so we made that costume for her, all feminine like, you know. Do you remember the heffalumps from Winnie the Pooh? We patterned her costume sort of after them.

Loved your pictures. I am always drawn to the water's edge too. I don't like to be on it--just near it--looking out over it. Loved the shot of the church across the water--lovely. I'm glad you've had a warm November. Hopefully it will make winter seem shorter for you.

Great and fun shots! You know, ever since I moved away from Montreal in 1983, I don't think I've heard anyone mention Two Mountains. I was beginning to wonder if it had changed names (apart from Lac des Deux Montagnes, that is). Fun visit.. thanks for that. :)

Thanks for taking us on that wonderful trip. I love to see places like that. I too am attracted to water animals and nature. Your story is perfect for the photos too. It adds such fun.

Wendy, you've inspired me to go for a walk today! But I would have to drive quite far to find a lake to enjoy here:) It's surprising to see boats out when it's so chilly, but I think boat enthusiasts must be a little like golfers--they'll brave any weather!

That was such fun Wendy...thank you for sharing your area and showing the lovely sights that you view often. It is wonderful to see where others live....

November has been the worst month ever here.....the flooding in UK has been awful and warnings have just been put into place for our area. Mr P and I cleared our front ditch today to make sure the water flows.....fingers crossed......

Glad you had a mild and gentle autumn Wendy......

Glad you have had no snow yet, Wendy. I'm sure it will come soon in your area.

Thanks for taking us on your ride/walk... I love water also--and it beckons me also. Gorgeous pictures.

Send me some of that cheese. Okay?
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Bev, yup, that's ice alright! I had passed by this lake earlier in the day. There were a few confused ducks parading up and down the ice. Of course my camera was at home, so I went back later in the day and got this lonely seagull.
Thanks for explaining Ella's costume. It's cute!

Hi Jen, I love being on the water too. Just not too choppy! December right around the corner.

Hi Hilary, you can come and visit any time. I still call it Lake of Two Mountains, rather than the french version.

Hi Teacher's Pet, oh, yes, poor little seagull. Freezing his toes alright.

Hi Rambling woods - haha - I like that ghost squirrels eating ghost birdseed. LOL!

Hi Maggie May - yes, I had to post that photo of the squirrel, even though it did not come out clearly (due to the foggy day). So I just made him into a ghost.

Hi Grammy, thanks for coming along.

Hi Rose, enjoy your walk. I was shocked to see the boats still on the water. I have another pic of 3 sailboats that I'm saving for a Christmas post (ya know, I saw three ships come sailing..)

Hi Cheryl, sorry about your horrid November. Nature's like that. We have a good month, yours is harsh. We have a harsh month, yours is good. Hopefully your floods have finished for the season.

Hey Besty, well, we had snow today! Will post some pics later on. Sure, you can have all the cheese you want. LOL!

The water always beckons me, too, and your description of the deserted yacht club was so easily imagined by my mind. I could "feel" it --- this time of year has a very familiar feel to it. Vacated hot spots, and the chilly quiet.
Thanks for letting us explore with you!

Hi Robin, thank you for your kind comments. I like to have fun with blogging and picture taking.

Hi Megan, Ha, I forgot to post that pic of the yacht club. But you pictured it anyway. Thank you!
